Homemade Dog Meal with Carrots, Brown Rice, and Liver

Here's a simple and nutritious recipe for a homemade dog meal using carrots, brown rice, and liver. This recipe is designed to be healthy and tasty for your furry friend!

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup brown rice
  • 2 cups water or low-sodium chicken broth
  • 1 cup carrots, finely chopped or grated
  • 1 cup liver (beef or chicken), chopped into small pieces
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil (optional)
  • A pinch of parsley (optional, for added flavor)

Instructions:

  1. Cook the Brown Rice:

    • In a medium saucepan, bring 2 cups of water or low-sodium chicken broth to a boil.
    • Add 1 cup of brown rice, reduce the heat to low, cover, and let it simmer for about 45 minutes or until the rice is tender and the liquid is absorbed. Remove from heat and let it sit covered for 10 minutes.
  2. Prepare the Liver:

    • While the rice is cooking, heat a skillet over medium heat. If using olive oil, add it to the skillet.
    • Add the chopped liver to the skillet and cook for about 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until it is cooked through and no longer pink in the center. Remove from heat and let it cool slightly.
  3. Cook the Carrots:

    • In the same skillet (or a separate one), add the finely chopped or grated carrots. You can sauté them for about 5 minutes until they are tender, or you can steam them if you prefer.
  4. Combine Ingredients:

    • In a large mixing bowl, combine the cooked brown rice, cooked liver, and cooked carrots. Mix well until all ingredients are evenly distributed.

Add Parsley (Optional):

If desired, sprinkle a pinch of parsley into the mixture for added flavor and nutrition.

Cool and Serve:

Allow the mixture to cool completely before serving it to your dog. Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.

Serving Size:

  • Serve according to your dog's size and dietary needs. A general guideline is about 1/2 to 1 cup of food per meal, depending on your dog's weight and activity level.

Notes:

  • Always consult with your veterinarian before making significant changes to your dog's diet, especially if they have any health concerns.
  • This recipe can be adjusted by adding other dog-safe vegetables like peas or green beans for variety.

Enjoy making this wholesome meal for your dog!
